Recap from the PayPal Developer Conference

The LiveWork Team spent the last couple of days at PayPal's Developer Conference in San Francisco. The Developer Conference was a great event where the future of online and mobile payments was discussed.

LiveWork also participated in the conference by having a kiosk on the floor showcasing the LiveWork platform. Many interesting companies approached us, curious to learn how LiveWork could benefit their company. For example, a regional plumbing distribution company, looking to build an on-demand sales force, was interested to learn how LiveWork could help augment their in-house team.

It is approaching seven months since LiveWork integrated with PayPal (LiveWork being the first to do so), thousands of virtual workers are being been paid, many who have earned thousands of dollars providing services to a variety of clients. We look forward to reporting on these figures from next year's PayPal Developer Conference.

A Look at Cloudsourcing By Atul Vashishta

A leading outsourcing executive, Atul Vashishta, recently wrote an article that appeared on cio.com that discussed a new era of outsourcing that leverages the Internet, cloud computing, and crowdsourcing – what Atul dubs “Cloudsourcing.”

This is LiveWork, which is really “outsourcing 2.0” that enables corporations to outsource ongoing business process work to global communities of virtual workforces through an Internet marketplace.

We couldn’t agree more that cloudsourcing represents the next wave in outsourcing.

The article can be read at: http://advice.cio.com/atul_vashistha/on_demand_bpo_a_new_era_of_cloudsourcing.

Qualifying a Workforce

On LiveWork, the number of available Experts, Companies, and Providers continues to grow. This on-demand workforce highlights a wide range of services as well as a diverse background, work history and skill range. Finding the right workforce for your project is crucial.

This is where LiveWork, through its set of tools, including project posting, required skills screening, integrated skills testing, public profiles and applicant management, provides tools to assist in finding the right workforce to meet Client needs. LiveWork offers the following to assist Clients:
  • Project posting - Through the project posting form, Clients have the ability to provide a clear title, description, specific requirements and ability to add any relevant documents to inform their applicants and target the right workforce to apply to their project.
  • Required Skills Screening - Via a new feature recently added, Clients now also have the option to enforce Applicants to have passed and taken specific skills from the integrated testing suite before they can apply to their project.
  • Integrated Skills Testing - LiveWork provides a wide range of available testing for Experts. Skills tests that have been taken and passed are highlighted as "certified" skills on their public profile for review and exposure to prospect Clients. Using these tests and scores, Clients have the ability to further qualify their workforce.
  • Public Profiles - The LiveWork public profiles continue to provide Clients with visibility into the available workforce. Profiles will provide Clients with an overview, services offered, work history, education, skills certified or declared, resume and a portfolio, if applicable, for each Expert. In addition, the profile clearly highlights an Expert's rating, earnings, projects and tasks completed, and availability.
  • Applicant Management - Via the integrated project Applicant Management tools, Clients have the ability to review the available applicants that applied to their project, filter and sort as needed, ensure the requirements and background meets their need and decide whether to accept an applicant.
We hope our Clients enjoy the capabilities that LiveWork offers them to source, qualify and engage the right workforce to meet their project demands.

ConnectandSell - Engaging an On-Demand Workforce for Sales Prospecting

Another Client using LiveWork for their on-demand workforce needs is ConnectandSell, with offices in Silicon Valley and India that provides a sales prospecting service through virtual sales agents to augment an existing sales force.

ConnectandSell had a need to rapidly augment its existing workforce of virtual sales agents with additional resources to meet the company's growth.

ConnectandSell turned to LiveWork's platform to source and contract with an on-demand workforce. In addition, given the presence-based nature of the work, ConnectandSell needed to leverage LiveWork's integrated workforce scheduling platform to ensure appropriate coverage throughout the week.

ConnectandSell had specific requirements related to workforce certification requirements , and leveraged LiveWork's custom certification module to require all applicants to pass a specific skill test. This enabled ConnectadSell to vet the quality of applicants, drastically reducing the time associated with screening.

If you are interested in engaging with/contracting with an on-demand workforce, we look forward to hearing from you!

Finding a workforce

A challenge on certain work marketplaces or job listing sites is the anonymity of the available workers on the platform.

LiveWork offers our Clients the ability to explore the available workforce and take advantage of features to find the appropriate Expert, Provider or Company to provide them with the services they seek. Through the LiveWork platform we offer the following workforce tools:

  • Expert Profiles - Each Expert, Provider or Company on our platform has their own “self declared” public profile. These user-populated Profiles can provide a helpful overview of the user’s business, their educational background, and may include a resume or portfolio. In addition, Client’s can also view a service provider’s work history on the platform, skills highlighted, and tests taken with scoring.
  • Browse Experts - Through the “Find Experts” tab, LiveWork Clients are able to search, refine and filter against a range of available Experts in the system, based on specific search and needs criteria.
  • Skills Testing – The LiveWork platform includes an integrated skills testing and scoring solution that will allow Experts to take specific tests, which when passed are featured as “certified” on their profile with their passing score. Clients can then search against these specific skills to help ensure they find the right workforce for their needs.
  • Interacting Directly - Outside of posting a project via “Find Work” to source Experts for work opportunities, Clients also have the ability to directly interact with and offer private projects directly to specific identified Experts. Via the “Hire” action on the site (profile or find Experts), Clients can post a project directly to a given Expert, Provider or Company.
  • Invitations - For a given Client project, Clients can also invite specific Experts onto their projects. Once they find the Expert that meets their qualification, they can “invite” the Expert via an action on the profile page or via the project applicant screen.

We hope our Clients enjoy the transparency of our platform, find the Experts that meet their needs and skills, and offer work directly or invite them to their projects.

Enjoy!

MerchantCircle - Engaging/Contracting with an On-Demand Workforce for Content Categorization

Another Client using LiveWork for their on-demand workforce needs is Silicon Valley-based MerchantCircle. MerchantCircle is a social network of 750,000 local businesses that helps business owners attract more customers online for free.

To improve ensure the integrity of their network and improve user experience, MerchantCircle sought to outsource the process of categorizing and validating over 300,000 online business listings, and turned to LiveWork to source, screen, engage with, and pay an on-demand workforce.

MerchantCircle had specific requirements related to the qualifications of applicants, and leveraged LiveWork's integrated workforce screening tools to rapidly filter the applicants who applied to the project. This enabled MerchantCircle to rapidly reduce the screening process associated with contracting with an on-demand workforce, that doesn't exist with other marketplaces. As a result, MerchantCircle was able to source dozens of qualified applicants in a matter of days.

If your corporation could benefit from an on-demand workforce, we look forward to hearing from you!

Task Scheduling & Routing

One of the challenges when managing the execution of tasks being performed by a large on-demand workforce, is making such tasks available, scheduling or assigning them to the available workforce. Across our Clients and Projects the workforce scheduling and assignment needs are varied and differ with each project.

This is where LiveWork solves this problem by providing functionality that allows Clients and Providers to schedule, assign or offer work to their workforces as needed. The platform provides flexible scheduling and work assignment functionality.

Clients can select from the following routing options:
  • Schedule Tasks - Using the LiveWork scheduler one can define specific time slots and the number of Experts needed for such slots. This offers Clients the ability to staff against specific dates & times (presence based work) for when tasks are available, such as handling customer care inquiries. Experts commit to specific slots (date & time) and perform the needed tasks at such time.
  • Auto Assign - Using auto assignment, tasks will automatically be assigned to thenext available Expert for their acceptance. This offers Clients the ability to post work and have it automatically be spread across their available workforce. Once an Expert completes their accepted task, they will be assigned the next available task for acceptance. Any unassigned tasks remain in the queue, until the next expert is available to accept the new task.
  • Self Assign - Using self-assignment, tasks will be made available via a queue to the workforce for their acceptance. This offers Clients the ability to make work available to their workforce and the workforce to self-select tasks from the queue for flexibility and choice. Experts self-select a set number of available tasks, once completed go back to the queue for more available tasks.
  • Direct Assign - Using direct assignment, tasks are directly assigned by Clients and accepted by specific Experts in the clients workforce. This offers Clients the ability to make specific and unique tasks available to the Experts that match the need for those tasks. This provides Clients the flexibility and control over which workers perform given tasks.
We hope our Clients enjoy the flexibility that LiveWork offers them via the LiveWork scheduler or assignment rules to offer work to their workforces.

Enjoy!

Team Collaboration

The successful collaboration and execution on a project by an on-demand workforce is often tied to the ability for the team to share learnings, best practices, ask questions and actively collaborate.

Having a project team knowledge repository also enables new team members to rapidly ramp-up and participate in the project more efficiently.

In order to encourage the collaboration and knowledge sharing across teams, the LiveWork platform offers several free key features available to project teams:
  • Forums - To facilitate the asking, answering and capturing of questions
  • Wiki - To facilitate the creation of knowledge, information, best practices across the team
  • Communication Tools - To facilitate the interaction amongst members via a webmessenger and built in mail communication
  • File Sharing - To exchange the sharing of documents, images or other information
We encourage all teams and projects on the platform to take advantage of these collaboration features. Share and collaborate freely.

Adroll - Engaging an On-Demand Workforce for Lead Generation

It has been a few weeks since we launched our public beta. We have selected a small group of pilot Clients (both large, global Fortune 500 corporations and emerging global leaders) who have been working with us over the last several months as we improve our product. We really appreciate the valuable feedback and patience as we continue to improve LiveWork.

Each week, we plan to highlight a Client who is using LiveWork for their on-demand workforce needs. This week, we are showcasing Adroll, a San Francisco social advertising platform that is using LiveWork for lead generation. Adroll is a venture-backed startup with a limited direct sales force, and was seeking cost efficient ways to augment their existing inhouse team for certain business processes. Through LiveWork, Adroll is able to rapidly source, engage with, certify, and pay a virtual workforce of independent contractors to assist their inhouse team with lead generation, providing high quality, cost effective leads.

Unlike other work marketplaces, Adroll can leverage the integrated workforce screening, scheduling, and collaboration tools to efficiently monitor and optimize an on-demand workforce. Adroll is able to also leverage LiveWork's “pay for performance” model, paying only for results.

If you feel your corporation could benefit from an on-demand workforce, we look forward to hearing from you!

Virtual Company Creation

One of the challenges for entrepreneurs, BPO's or individuals is the ability to highlight their business and services they offer to prospect clients.

A unique offering on LiveWork is the ability to create virtual storefronts for service providers or BPOs. Through the LiveWork platform, service providers can create a presence, highlight their business offerings, services and workforce.

This enables a service provider to transform their workforce into an on-demand, virtual workforce to reach new clients and markets, and, allows them to find ways to generate additional revenue through optimizing their workforce utilization rates.

Creating a virtual storefront on the platform involves creating a profile outlining service offerings. Businesses can take advantage of integrated controls to manage, add and accept new workforce members to provide services on behalf of their virtual business. Domestic service providers or global BPO's looking to reach new clients and virtualize their workforce can use LiveWork in a simple and free (there are no fees for posting your storefront!) manner to market their services and workforces to prospect clients.

To create a virtual storefront, see our FAQ for more details.

Welcome to the beta release of LiveWork

Welcome to the beta release of LiveWork, a community that enables people to work on their own terms and work together as teams to offer their services to companies who need to get business work done. Much in the same way that eBay enabled sellers and companies to instantly build on-line storefronts to revolutionize the world of commerce, we are building LiveWork to help teams of experts and Business Process Outsourcing firms (BPOs) to create virtual service companies and offer their services on-demand.

We know that this revolutionary model of virtual work is great for both businesses and workers. At LiveWork, we are inspired every day by bringing more value to businesses, and more work and career opportunities to workers.

While LiveWork is a new service, our system is built based on the LiveOps technology we have developed over the past 6 years to operate one of the largest virtual work communities on the Internet, with more than 100 million mission critical business tasks completed by 20K virtual business owners. Through LiveWork, we are now making this technology available to anybody who wants to offer their services or hire an on-demand workforce.

We are still in the process of adding / expanding many features of the LiveWork site, so we appreciate your patience if some things are not working the way you would like them to work. Also, please let us know what we can do to improve our service by sending email to feedback@livework.com. We very much appreciate your feedback, and will be using this blog to update you on new developments and features.

Thanks for your support, and we look forward to helping you build your business and revolutionize the world of work!
